Design
Shiver aims in no uncertain terms towards sportiness. The colouring with a new graphic (Bianco Glam and Nero Aprilia), the "wavy" discs and the sporty rider footpegs are just a few of the signals which Shiver gives off to the beholder. The line remains very streamline and Italian and thanks to the clever use of the new colours and graphics, Shiver moves up a few notches as far as balance and aggression are concerned, highlighting some techniques that really make a difference, such as, for instance, the side shock absorber or the mixed steel trellis frame and aluminium plates.

The engine
The V90 engine is the result of the extensive experience Aprilia has in high performance mechanics. Thanks to its peculiar technical features the Aprilia twin-cylinder is able to combine an exceptionally high level of output with maximum exploitation rates and user-friendly riding options. The research conducted to reach top performance levels in its category has led to the decision to adopt some advanced cutting-edge technical solutions. Generous torque is always available throughout the entire range of rpms, minimal vibrations, full output and power at the top of its category... all characteristics of the Aprilia V2 750.
Shiver naturally confirms the integrated multi-map Ride by Wire technology which evolves further, also taking advantage of the racing experience gained from the RSV4 superbike. This technical solution obviously represents the state-of-the-art version of engine control systems and Aprilia Shiver confirms its technological leadership position in its sector.
With the simple touch of the starter control the rider can select, even while moving but with closed throttle, one of the three maps, and radically change the motorcycle's character:
- "Sport" to have the "throttle in hand" when a rider needs to let off steam exploiting the entire character of this Italian twin cylinder bike;
- "Touring" when smoother power delivery and fluidity are essential during the moments when the racing desires are set aside to enjoy a more relaxing ride, even two-up;
- "Rain" when grip is not as good as it should be and maximum safety is the main objective.
Thanks to the technical solutions installed on this bike the V90 Aprilia is able to achieve outstanding output values. Maximum power of 95 HP at 9,000 rpm and maximum torque of 81 Nm at 7,000 rpm is top of the line performance. The amazing torque available even at bottom end means that nothing can beat Shiver on mixed tracks.

Frame
You don't change a winning team, so for this Aprilia Shiver the chassis choices are confirmed from the previous version, starting from the composite trellis frame and aluminium plates. The engine is exceptionally compact length-wise making it possible to obtain a highly agile bike, which is also helped by the particular choice to install the shock absorber on the side: this is not simply an aesthetic choice but a precise technical decision as it frees some extra space for the exhaust which can then benefit from optimal volumes.
The aluminium swingarm with the stiffener brace is dimensioned to withstand the asymmetrical stress caused by the lateral position of the shock absorber. The swingarm has benchmark rigidity levels in this category.

Suspensions
Upside-down fork with 43-mm stanchions and shell cast calliper mounts offering benchmark smoothness. Its 120-mm travel allows the rider to easily cope with city roads and mountain paths.
The lateral shock absorber is fitted directly to the swingarm using a cantilever set-up and the spring preload and hydraulic rebound are adjustable; the rear wheel travel is 130 mm.
Dynamic qualities also enhanced by the choice of the 5.5 x 17 rear wheel, which maximises its handiness and rapidity in direction changes.
Brakes
Along with its radial callipers, a solution that it pioneered for the sector, Shiver now adds wavy brake discs which ensure, besides a different aesthetic impact, a braking grip which is more decisive and can be modulated.
The rear brake features a 245mm disc with single piston calliper to provide adequate support to the front system.
Both the front and rear systems have metal braided braking pipes, derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional pipes and guarantee maximum braking accuracy and top-class system.
ABS version adopts a 2-channel Continental system which is able to guarantee maximum levels of safety when braking in all conditions.

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750GT ABS Review

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750GT ABS
INNOVATIVE, VERSATILE, SPORTY AND COMFORTABLE. THANKS TO ITS UNATTAINABLE TECHNOLOGICAL PACKAGE, SHIVER GT 750 HAS NO RIVALS IN THIS SEGMENT AND IS READY TO SATISFY THE MOST DEMANDING MOTORCYCLISTS.
This model offers a twin-cylinder engine with high torque, completely comfortable ergonomics for two persons, excellent aerodynamic protection and a superior chassis that has become a benchmark: these are just a few distinguishing elements offered by Aprilia Shiver GT 750, which provides dynamic quality and technological features, reaching the top of its segment to satisfy the most demanding motorcyclists, following Aprilia's tradition.
The Aprilia Shiver GT 750 raises the technological level of this segment and clearly distinguishes itself from competitors. A second generation ride-by-wire system throttle grip, 3 mapping systems directly controlled by the rider (Sport, Touring and Rain), brakes with radial callipers and ABS, a modular frame linked with steel tubular and aluminium side plates are brand new features for this middleweight engine 'sports touring' bike that makes the Aprilia Shiver GT 750 a superior and unique motorcycle.
The half-fairing gives Shiver GT 750 the chance to reveal the absolute versatility of the Shiver family. Its greater aerodynamic protection studied in wind tunnel experiments in order to offer the right projectivity for motorways, considerably widens the spectrum for the Shiver GT 750 that is set out as a "complete" motorcycle for a truly complete riding experience. Moreover, the new top fairing provides comfortable glove-boxes (one of which can be locked), very useful for storing small objects, it also includes a 12V-plug socket (used to charge mobile phones and to plug a GPS unit).

DESIGN: A SHAPE TO SERVE POWER
Aprilia SHIVER GT is pure cutting-edge technology proven also by its sharp determined lines; its shape and functions blend to form a perfect bike.
The Aprilia SHIVER GT technical element is also an element of design, giving the motorcycle an aggressive and at the same time elegant look.
The features of the tank-saddle-short tail make this motorcycle even more compact. The rider becomes integral part of the bike, perfectly fitted into a short, agile, sports motorcycle. The short tail is extremely narrowed and includes a double exhaust system with triangular mufflers (creating a visual link with the Shiver). This solution offers more than an aggressive design, providing an excellent symmetric weight distribution.
The lateral shock absorber is not just an aesthetic distinctive element, but has also allowed the design of a rational, compact and effective exhaust system.
The top fairing also gives a family connection with the Naked bike version, nevertheless it does not alter its character, determination and instead gives more functionality in terms of protection and capacity. Optimised in wind tunnel experiments, the SHIVER GT offers the rider and the passenger a comfortable driving experience of a superior motorcycle with improved functions. In fact, the design gives more space for two glove-boxes (one with a lock) which are perfectly fitted into the body of the bike, very useful for storing small objects.
V 90° ENGINE: PURE TECHNOLOGY
Aprilia Shiver GT 750 shares the same technical features with the naked bike version: a modern twin-cylinder V 90° Euro 3 engine, completely designed and developed by Aprilia. This engine is the first of a great series to use a built-in ride-by-wire system, and it has quickly distinguished itself for its dynamic features. With an impressive 95 hp on tap, it is not only the most powerful twin cylinder bike in its class, it also has an extremely generous torque curve right from the bottom of the rev range, setting it on a par in terms of elasticity and urge with larger capacity multicylinder engines and, most importantly, offering smooth and effortless power delivery for enhanced riding pleasure.
It is a generous twin-cylinder engine destined to become the benchmark for mid-size motorcycles. The search for performance to the top of its segment has led to the selection of advanced innovative technological solutions:
- V architecture at 90°;
- Ride-by-wire technology with 3 mapping systems (Sport, Touring and Rain);
- bore-stroke ratio, strongly oversquare;
- four valves per cylinder;
- double overhead camshaft timing system controlled by a mixed chain/gear system;
- electronic injection system with two throttle bodies;
- pipets with built-in Stick-coils;
- three-way catalytic converter and lambda probe;
- hydraulically operated clutch.
It is a perfect engine for this type of bike; its powerful output combined is perfect to meet the demands of the Aprilia Shiver GT 750 rider: an expert rider who not only expects high performance but also wants an easy intuitive riding experience and an ever favouring driving torque that can cut-down the need to use gears, even when fully loaded thanks to the motorbike's elasticity that is beyond comparison.
Its 3-mapping system also offers the chance to changeover between Sport, Touring and Rain, increasing the rider's possibilities and allowing him to find the correct power output in order to cope with different road conditions.
This is where innovation comes into play, as only Aprilia's engineers could apply it first: V2 engine power and plentiful torque are filtered by the Ride-by-Wire system for the best possible output for all types of motorcyclists and for all road conditions. With the Sport mapping system, the engine behaviour is the thrilling sports performance of the Aprilia twin-cylinder engine. The Touring mapping system gives the rider a softer power output for relaxing moments when sports performance is set aside for the pleasure of touring, or when riding with passengers and loads. At last, thanks to a 25% torque reduction, the Rain mapping system eases the rider when starting on slippery roads or when adherence is poor.
CHASSIS
The sophisticated chassis of the Shiver GT 750 is clearly superior to the competition. A modular-type frame (steel frame and aluminium plates) works perfectly with the 43-mm stanchion upside-down fork and a sturdy aluminium swingarm with stiffener brace. Furthermore, the lateral adjustable single shock absorber is another distinctive feature of the Aprilia Shiver GT 750.
Its position gives plenty of space to fit the exhaust system placed under the saddle, giving a very linear performance and a volume that guarantees maximum engine performance. Everything is devised for a bike that is particularly compact and capable of satisfying experienced and non-experienced bikers.
The great chassis architecture of Shiver GT, the easiest bike to ride among competitors, is combined to a superior braking system. The stopping power of the 320 mm discs with radial callipers is complemented by an advanced two channel ABS system developed specifically for this model by Continental for maximum riding safety.
THE CHASSIS: FUNCTIONALITY AND EFFICIENCY
Expert bikers and mechanics have always acknowledged that Aprilia's motorcycles have got the best possible chassis. SHIVER GT 750 proves it and shows how Aprilia was able once more to design an easy and intuitive chassis with incredible effective performance.
The essential choices used for the architecture of the V90 engine led to the realisation of an extremely rational and efficient modular steel tubular frame and aluminium plates. The compact length of the engine, together with the unique lateral position of the shock absorber, made it possible to create a very agile bike;it is not a simple aesthetic habit, but a precise technical choice that frees up space for the exhaust system, hence optimising volume.
The aluminium swingarm with stiffener brace was especially sized to handle uneven stress due to the lateral position of the shock absorber.

SUSPENSION
Upside-down fork with 43-mm stanchions and shell cast calliper mounts offering benchmark smoothness.Its 120-mm travel allows the rider to easily cope with city roads and mountain paths. The lower and higher steering plate are made of forged aluminium.
The lateral shock absorber is pivoted directly onto the swingarm according to the cantilever layout and the spring preload and hydraulic rebound can be adjusted; the rear wheel travel is 130 mm.
BRAKES
The Aprilia SHIVER GT 750 offers the latest state-of-the-art technology for its braking system: radial callipers; a solution that heightens the sportiness of the design. The 320 mm front discs are the same as those used on flagship sports bikes.
The 240 mm rear disc fitted with single piston calliper gives adequate support to the front braking system.
The front and the rear braking systems use metal braid pipes derived from aeronautics that remove the annoying noises emitted by conventional pipes, hence providing the utmost braking precision for a truthful system at its maximum level.
A sophisticated two-channel ABS system allows the SHIVER GT 750 to further increase its active and passive safety level avoiding undesired jams on difficult roads and improving braking performance.

2012 Aprilia RS4 125 Review

2012 Aprilia RS4 125
The RS4 125 - the first Aprilia sport bike in this engine class with a 4-stroke engine allow young enthusiasts to take advantage of the maximum levels of technological innovation, chassis efficiency, active safety and component quality. They belong - not only from a styling point of view - to the same range of extremely high performance Italian motorcycles in which the Aprilia RSV4 stands out, the extraordinary bike which conquered two world titles in the 2010 Superbike season.
APRILIA SPORT BIKES: WINNING DNAIn its short history, Aprilia has earned 48 world titles (37 in Moto GP, 2 in Superbike, 9 in off-road competition) and hundreds of championship races, to become the most victorious Italian and European brand in just a short period of history in Moto GP.
It is precisely in the youngest classes of Moto GP that Aprilia established itself as a true "school of champions". On Aprilia 250 and 125 bikes in the RS series (RS, RSV, RSW and RSA) riders such as Biaggi, Rossi, Melandri, Stoner, Lorenzo rode to their first great triumphs.
Every weekend, all over the world, Aprilia bikes take to the track, from international venues to local races, holding high the honour of Italian and European motorcycling, supporting the biker's desire to race and cultivating young riders destined to enter the world championship scene.
Aprilia has always drawn from this wealth of success and technical skills for mass production - both in the philosophy which inspires the product and the aesthetics which are often taken from the racing bike - establishing itself from the start as an absolute leader in the 50 and 125 super sport segment, categories in which the Noale brand has introduced timeless innovative concepts and solutions and dictating trends which would be followed by all of its competitors.
From 1993 until today, more than 100,000 Aprilia RS 125 two stroke bikes have been manufactured and sold in more than 30 countries around the world.
The Aprilia RS4 125 is the natural successor and most advanced evolution to date of the Aprilia RS 125, the bike that has dominated the 125 cc sports class for years, which set the benchmark for the one-eighth litre sports segment and which is still today the most highly sought after vehicle among riders competing in the Sport Production category.
Aprilia RS4 125 introduces the highly advanced, all-new four stroke powerplant to the sports segment, while adopting styling and technical solutions inherited from the RSV4, the superbike that led Aprilia to victory in the WSBK 2010 championship.
- Aprilia RS4 125 marked a milestone in the evolution of the 125 cc motorcycle.
This is the first Aprilia 125cc sport bike equipped with a four stroke engine.
- For the first time on a 125cc motorcycle, Aprilia offers the innovative Aprilia Quick Shift system, a sophisticated technical solution derived directly from its big sister, the RSV4 APRC.

DESIGN
The livery and eye-catching forms of the Aprilia RS4 125 echo the looks of the Factory version of the Aprilia RSV4 supersports bike. And the RS4 shares more than just a family resemblance with the most hardcore street version the bike dominating the world SBK championship.
The design of the fairings and tank, the unique looks of the front end, with the headlights suspended over the gaping air intakes, and the spectacular tapered tail fairing are identical to their counterparts on V4 1000 cc supersports model that set new standards in terms of style and technical content for the superbike segment.
Extensive aerodynamic studies have minimised surface areas without compromising wind protection, and the fairings showcase the superlative mechanicals of the Aprilia RS4 125 rather than conceal them. As a result, the frame and engine are not hidden away but proudly flaunted as fundamental elements of the design of Aprilia's new small supersports models. With the triple headlight, the Aprilia RS4 bikes have a decidedly aggressive look that lends a unique character to the entire front end. The LED taillight merges stunningly into the ultra-compact tail fairing and offers excellent luminosity.
The fairing, product of extensive wind tunnel testing and race experience, offers excellent wind protection together with superb aerodynamic efficiency. And as well as contributing to the extremely aggressive looks of the bike, the top fairing and tail fairing also maximise performance in terms of speed.
On Aprilia RS4 125, one additional detail underscores the level of sophistication of the bike: the exhaust, which is unmistakably inspired by competition machines, is completely integrated within the lower part of the fairing. A solution that is not just visually effective, but which also contributes significantly to the dynamics of the bike by helping to centralise masses.

ENGINES
With the new RS4 125, Aprilia confirms its global leadership in the small capacity sports and young-targeted bike segment, creating models that exceed the expectations of even the most discerning rider.
The sophisticated chassis architecture of the Aprilia RS4 125 is complemented by state of the art engines.
The Aprilia RS4 is powered by an all new 125 cc water cooled 4 stroke single cylinder engine with four valves and electronic engine boasting a sophisticated double overhead camshaft (DOHC) valve timing system. This engine produces the maximum power output permitted for the class with a smooth, linear delivery and ecologically - as it meets even the strictest emissions regulations in effect.
With a six speed gearbox allowing the rider to make full use of the power available in all conditions, the Aprilia RS4 125 offers unbeatable performance in its class not just in terms of absolute power at high engine speeds, but also in terms of usable power band, minimised vibration and outstanding mechanical reliability.
APRILIA QUICK SHIFT
For the first time on a 125 bike, Aprilia offers the innovative Aprilia Quick Shift system, a sophisticated technical solution derived directly from the extraordinary big sister, RSV4 APRC, which in turn is derived directly from Aprilia's experience in the World Superbike championship.
The operational principle is similar, although partly simplified, to that of the RSV4: on the RS4 the system also guarantees torque interruption for gear change based on the speed which is engaged, the level of gas opening and the engine rpm, but for the 125cc, the shift time is a fixed parameter.
The advantage of this system - available as a separate accessory - is that the rider can easily upshift keeping the gas open without using the clutch, thereby making the gear change simple and quick.
CHASSIS
The chassis is without a doubt the feather in the RS4 project's cap: built based on the exceptional experience which Aprilia has gained in WSBK and the 125 and 250 classes in Moto GP, it uses die cast aluminium spars with crossed reinforcement ribs. With its state of the art design, this extremely lightweight structure offers high torsional stiffness.
The front suspension also boasts a class beating layout, with a sturdy 41 mm upside fork, black anodised stanchion clamps and a wheel travel of 110 mm, while at the rear is a monoshock linked directly to the asymmetric swingarm.
The Aprilia RS4 125 boast class beating brake systems: each bike uses a 300 mm steel disc at the front, gripped by a four piston radial calliper, and a 220 mm disc at the rear with a single piston calliper.
The 17" wheels are shod with 100/80 rubber up front and a 130/70 tyre at the rear.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The multifunctional analogue/digital instrument panel with LCD display draws directly from its big sister, the RSV4, while the design of the split 6-spoke design of the wheels further emphasises the purposeful character of Aprilia's latest small capacity sports bikes.
The passenger saddle is yet another example of the extreme level of sophistication of these new bikes from Aprilia. Instead of fiddly screws, a practical quick release button allows the passenger seat to be exchanged with the tail fairing cover in an instant to transform the bike from two seat to single seat configuration (available as a separate accessory).
Under the saddle there is also space for a practical glove-box, the most spacious in its category.
COLOURS
The Aprilia RS4 125 are available in two colour schemes - "Racing Black" and "Racing White" - and in the bold "Replica SBK" livery which takes its colours from big sister, Aprilia RSV4 SBK, the bike ridden by Max Biaggi in the World Superbike championship.

2012 Aprilia RS4 50 Review

2012 Aprilia RS4 50
The RS4 50 allow young enthusiasts to take advantage of the maximum levels of technological innovation, chassis efficiency, active safety and component quality.

2012 Aprilia RS4 50 Model Highlights
Below is a summary of the peculiar characteristics of the Aprilia RS4 50:
- RS4 50 - 50cc 2 stroke single-cylinder engine, liquid cooled with six speed transmission
- stiff aluminium perimeter frame derived from racing experience
- 41 mm upside down fork
- front brake with 300 mm disc and radial four piston calliper
- Superbike inspired analogue/digital instrument panel
- fairings derived directly from the RSV4 for total aesthetic coherence with the SBK bike
- LED taillight

DESIGN
The livery and eye-catching forms of the Aprilia RS4 50 echo the looks of the Factory version of the Aprilia RSV4 supersports bike.
Extensive aerodynamic studies have minimised surface areas without compromising wind protection, and the fairings showcase the superlative mechanicals of the Aprilia RS4 50 rather than conceal them.

ENGINES
With the new RS4 50, Aprilia confirms its global leadership in the small capacity sports and young-targeted bike segment, creating models that exceed the expectations of even the most discerning rider.
The sophisticated chassis architecture of the Aprilia RS4 50 is complemented by state of the art engines.
The single cylinder 50 cc unit developed by Aprilia for the RS4 50 is a water cooled two-stroke with reed valve induction. The lubrication uses a separate mixing system with a variable capacity volumetric pump. The six speed gearbox lets the rider make full use of the performance of this class beating engine.

The Aprilia RS4 50 boast class beating brake systems: each bike uses a 300 mm steel disc at the front, gripped by a four piston radial calliper, and a 220 mm disc at the rear with a single piston calliper.
COLOURS
The Aprilia RS4 50 is available in two colour schemes - "Racing Black" and "Racing White" - and in the bold "Replica SBK" livery which takes its colours from big sister, Aprilia RSV4 SBK, the bike ridden by Max Biaggi in the World Superbike championship.

2012 Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC Review

2012 Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC
Unparalleled efficacy and riding pleasure.

This is the most complete version, equipped as standard with a steering damper and the APRC second generation vehicle dynamic control suite.
APRC is based on an automotive inertia sensor platform, with two gyrometers and two accelerometers allowing the engine ECU to determine the dynamic state of the motorcycle and control engine torque accordingly to help the rider exploit the full performance potential of the bike.
The APRC suite equipping the Tuono V4 R includes:
- ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) with eight different settings for controlling sliding when powering out of curves in relation to bank angle and throttle aperture. The system has been tweaked to make the more conservative settings even more suitable for road use, while leaving the racing spirit of the less restrictive levels intact;
- AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control) which helps the rider maintain control in extreme wheelie conditions by gradually bringing the front wheel back to the ground, has been appropriately adapted for the different weight distribution of the Tuono V4;
- QS (Aprilia Quick Shift), which allows instantaneous upshifts without closing the throttle or using the clutch. Completing the suite of four functions is the most exhilarating of all: ALC (Aprilia Launch Control).
- Simultaneously pressing both buttons on the joystick on the left hand handlebar arms the system, as confirmed by the specific message on the display. From this moment on, all 167,3 horsepower of the beast from Noale are ready to slingshot the Tuono V4 R like a missile as soon as the rider releases the clutch, unleashing the astonishing power onto the tarmac through every available square millimetre of the 190/55 rear tyre. And tyre size does not matter to APRC, as with its Calibrating function, it is the only system of its kind on the market capable of self-adapting to tyre size and drive ratio.
Tuono V4 R APRC is a bike with two personalities, with two distinct display modes - Road and Race - to cater for even the most exacting rider.

A superbike with high handlebars.
After creating the best superbike of the new millennium, Aprilia revolutionises the supersports naked segment with its astonishing Tuono V4 R. A bike that goes beyond the wildest dreams of even the most hardcore enthusiasts - the rider who, given the chance, would use a race bike just to go for a coffee.
For riders like these and for those with power in their veins, Aprilia has created a motorcycle with the indomitable spirit of the RSV4 in a feline body that is in its element when accelerating and braking with unimaginable violence, that eats up curves of any radius and swallows straights whole.
The performance and features of a superbike, the agility of a naked and the legacy of an innovative concept born in 2002 with the Tuono 1000 R - a bike that earned both critical acclaim and sales success - but with an extraordinary ace up its sleeve: the performance of a 65° V4 engine and the most advanced electronics available in a motorcycle today.
Like the original Tuono, the V4 R is also immediately recognisable with its triple headlight fixed top fairing, the distinguishing trait of a bike which, like its twin cylinder predecessor, has the body and soul of its WSBK homologated sibling, but now - as well as having two world championships (the 2010 constructors' and riders' titles) under its belt - features two more cylinders and 41 horsepower more than before, while weighing over ten kilos less. These astonishing figures are a testimony to the technological evolution that made this exciting model a reality. The bike is available in two different configurations - Tuono V4 R APRC a choice of three colours: competition black, sunlit yellow and wing grey.

THE MOTORCYCLE
With its 65° V4 engine unashamedly flaunted and framed by the brushed aluminium elements of the twin spar frame, the Tuono V4 is a naked clad only with the bare minimum necessary to let you saddle up and teach it to respond to your will.
Adding yet another touch of aggressiveness is the aerodynamic top fairing tipped with two polyelliptical headlights and LED indicators at the sharp end, which gives the bike the unequivocally mean, daunting stare that you'd expect from a machine with an incredible 167.3 horsepower.
Tuono V4 R boasts more power than ever seen before in a naked, achieved by reconfiguring the V4 engine of the RSV4 to make it better suited to street use.The features inherited by the Tuono V4 R from the RSV4 include the exhaust system with bypass valve, which is two kilos lighter than the system used on the RSV4 R, and latest generation Ride by Wire throttle control with three rider-selectable maps (Track, Sport and Road).
The first three gear ratios are now shorter, while the maximum torque value of 111.5 Nm is on tap at 9,500 rpm: characteristics that make the Tuono V4 R a wild beast at low and mid engine speeds, with the ability to unleash a devastating hurricane of power at higher engine speeds.
The Tuono V4 R maintains a clear parentage with the twice SBK world champion in the proportions of the tail fairing, saddle, tank and side panels, and is one of the best examples of Italian motorcycle design from the past decade for its perfect balance between formal beauty and function.
The rider will be taming this beast from a riding position tailored to create a symbiotic relationship between the body and the bike, for unparalleled feedback through the three points of contact - the saddle, footpegs and handlebars. On the Tuono V4 R. however, the rider sits with less weight taken up by the arms, making the bike less strenuous to ride and extraordinarily nimble and controllable on the road.
The original design of the saddle, which is generously sized and specifically shaped to comfortably accommodate a passenger, blends perfectly with the style of the side fairings and tail fairing.
From the vantage point of the saddle and with the broad tapered handlebars firmly in your grip, you immediately discover that the
APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) version features an immediately intuitive joystick for rapidly accessing and adjusting the functions of the second generation electronic dynamic control suite developed by Aprilia to let the rider explore the physical limits of riding.

ALSO AVAILABLE WITH APRC - THE SECOND GENERATION DYNAMIC CONTROL SUITE DEVELOPED ON THE BASIS OF APRILIA'S RACING EXPERIENCE.

THE ENGINE
The Tuono V4R is the only naked powered by a narrow V (65°) 4 cylinder engine with unique characteristics. Extremely compact, as slim as a twin-cylinder and installed in an ultra-compact chassis, the 65° V4 engine is the epitome of Italian engineering ingenuity.
The Tuono gives away very little to its RSV4 sibling in terms of pure performance, but in exchange offers a greater fluidity that make it more enjoyable and rewarding to ride on the road and when carrying a passenger.
Tuono V4
Power 167.3 hp at 11,500 rpm
Torque 111.5 Nm at 9,500 rpm
Rev limiter 12,300 rpm in all gears
To achieve these results, a number of different modifications were made to the Aprilia V4 engine:
- New valve timing diagram.
- Fixed intake ducts now 20 mm longer.
- Crankshaft flywheel with increased inertia for improved smoothness and overall balance.
- Shortened gear ratios for the first three gears.
- Engine speed at maximum power reduced to 11,500 rpm on the Tuono V4R

The Aprilia 65° V4 engine specifications in short:
Engine capacity: 999.6 cc
Architecture: 65° V4
Crankcase: monobloc with integrated crankcase liners
Timing system: 4 valves per cylinder operated directly by a camshaft driven by a mixed chain/gear system (lateral timing chain and central gear train)
Fuel system: electronic injection with a single injector per cylinder and integrated independent Ride by Wire system for each bank. Three maps selectable from the handlebar (Track, Sport and Road)
Antivibration countershaft
Compression ratio: 13:1
Gearbox: 6-speed direct-control cassette type gearbox
Clutch: Multiplate wet clutch with mechanical slipper system
Electronic management: Magneti Marelli control unit managing ignition, injection and Ride by Wire system.
The narrow V architecture translates into an engine that is incredibly compact in length, offering advantages in terms of mass centralisation and making it possible to define a chassis architecture centre of gravity that is both very low and almost perfectly centralised in the engine and vehicle for neutral, intuitive behaviour and maximum responsiveness on the road.
The innovative valve timing system (with the chain camshaft driving only the intake camshaft, which in turn drives the exhaust camshaft via a single gear) has allowed the use of extremely compact heads (just 250 mm at the rear of the engine), especially in the area beneath the frame spars, which are thus much narrower than would otherwise be possible.
A countershaft dampens vibrations even more than in a 90° V engine.
The monobloc crankcase with integrated aluminium cylinder liners ensures maximum rigidity and consistent performance.
The electronic management system is another example of the 65° V4 engine's technological supremacy. Full Ride by Wire technology eliminates any direct connection between the throttle grip and the throttle valves, which are entirely controlled by a latest generation Marelli control unit that also controls the ignition and the 4 injectors
Each bank has a dedicated servo unit actuating its own two throttle bodies only. This means that the aperture of the throttle valves and, as a consequence, the quantity of fuel injected, can be controlled independently. A solution that opens up practically infinite possibilities for power delivery control and works hand in hand with the APRC system.
This technology, adapted appropriately for the prevalently road based usage of the Tuono V4, offers immediately tangible benefits to the rider, with triple mapping (adjusting power delivery and maximum power) selectable directly from the handlebar allowing the character of the bike to be modified to suit the rider's personal riding style or the track conditions at any time.
T - TRACK: no compromise. All 167.3 hp of power available at the slightest twist of the throttle.
S - SPORT: maximum fun on the open road. Smooth delivery, maximum power. Torque limited in all gears for fun yet less demanding riding.
R - ROAD: usability in all conditions. Smooth delivery and power attenuated by 25% across the rev range. Greater usability in all conditions. Ideal for the city or wet road conditions.
The transmission has also been designed to the meet most advanced criteria to offer the maximum performance possible. To underscore the racing soul of the 65° V4 engine, it is mated to a cassette gearbox with a wet sump lubrication system (with oil in the crankcase). The wet clutch features a mechanical slipper system for optimised engine braking torque control and stability under hard braking.

CHASSIS
In keeping with the Aprilia tradition of creating state of the art chassis architectures, the aluminium frame of the Tuono V4 R exploits the strength and flexibility of cast and pressed elements in a structure that sets new benchmarks in terms of balance and dynamic efficiency. The result is maximum torsional stiffness and flexional stiffness optimised for improved feedback.
Unlike the previous generation twin cylinder Tuono 1000R, the frame developed for the Tuono V4 R has been completely revised with respect to the unit used in the RSV4 to maximise directional control and stability for a naked capable of over 270 Km/h - on the track, of course - while maintaining the legendary safety and impeccable precision typical of Aprilia frames.
This in turn led to new solutions in terms of chassis geometry, such as modifying the trail and lowering the engine in the frame to lower the centre of gravity, for exceptionally neutral behaviour and truly catlike high speed stability.
This means that the Aprilia Tuono is not just a bike with devastating performance, but one whose greatest strength is precisely the incredible ease with which any rider can access its full potential. The swingarm also uses the same constructional technology as the frame and offers the same perfect balance between flexional and torsional stiffness to contribute to the extraordinary responsiveness of the Tuono V4 R.
The unique construction technology of the frame and swingarm allows them both to proudly flaunt the naturally gleaming colour of brushed aluminium, yet another feature that is increasingly rarer in production bikes that contributes to pure racing look of the Tuono V4.
The mind-blowing naked from Aprilia comes equipped with the best components available on the market: Brembo brake system with radial callipers and 320 mm floating discs at the front (220 mm at the rear), aluminium wheels with a three spoke design weighing 2 Kg less than the five spoke version, fully adjustable Sachs upside down front fork with 43 mm stanchions, and Sachs shock absorber with separate piggy back nitrogen canister featuring adjustable spring preload, compression and rebound damping and length, to modify the setup of the bike to suit different riding styles, roads and loads - including a passenger. The choice of dual-compound tyres is new, with three different sizes approved for the rear wheel: the 190/55 tyre fitted as standard may be replaced with a 200/55 or a 190/50 tyre to explore the full performance potential of the bike - even on the track.
